The Fireman Sam television series has been a hit with children since it’s first broadcast back in 1985, the original idea for the series came from two ex-firemen from Kent. Over 20 years later it’s still massively popular and has been translated into over 25 languages and shown all over the world.
Popular characters from the series include Fireman Sam - like many real firemen Sam is aptly referred to as being ‘the hero next door’ he’s the central character to the series and drives a fire engine called Jupiter. Penny Morris - Penny is a female firefighter who originally hails from Newtown fire station and has her own firefighting vehicle called Venus. Elvis Cridlington - Elvis works alongside Sam as a fireman, he’s a rock and roll fan and can often be heard saying his catchprase "Great balls of fire!"
